KIDS

Since 1989, R.A.D. Systems has been dedicated to opposing violence against women through a nationwide network of instructors. Teaching what has become the national standard in self defense education for women, R.A.D. Systems hopes to utilize its expereince and this incredible network to educate parents and children about our violent and unpedictable times.

RADKids Objective

"To provide educational opportunities for children and parents, concerning awareness and self defense strategies, instilling confidence and reducing the possibility of adverse physical control and/or harm."

RAD Basic

Objective:

"To develop and enhance the options of self defense, so they may become viable considerations to the woman who is attacked."

The RAD program of self defense offers a unique and comprehensive approach to womens safety.  Instructors address issues of personal safety, awareness and risk reduction, equipping participants with valuable background information before physical techniques are even introduced.  Above all, the program is based on the assumption that no one decision is right for all women in all situations -- discussion revolves around a woman's choices and options. This focus empowers women and creates a supportive and safe classroom environment in which to learn and practice the self defense techniques.

Unlike other self defense programs, RAD teaches practical defensive techniques -- no special equipment or skill is needed. The course was designed for the average women and is open to women only.

  • certified instructors
  • one time course attendance entitles participant to retrain anytime, anywhere -- free of charge
  • realistic simulation gives participant the opportunity to practice the physical techniques-empowering her

This course is being taught across the country and Canada. Some instructors charge a fee. The Gadsden Police Department and its instructors are committed to the RAD program and its mesage and do not charge participants.

Gadsden instructors are me (Sgt. Regina Gartman), Rodney Couch, JD Thomas and Kelly Smith.

Gadsden was first to bring RAD to Northeast Alabama and we have taught hundred of women in Northeast Alabama.
