TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES
SPECIAL ATTENTION: SWAT Team Members & Police Instructor Staff
This agency is hosting the professional training staff of The Training Academy (Defense Technology) who will be presenting a 4 day Instructor Level, Less Lethal Training Program at _Gadsden Police Department_ on _May 12-15, 2008_. The complete program consists of the following 4 unique certifications: OC AEROSOL PROJECTORS, SPECIALTY IMPACT MUNITIONS, CHEMICAL MUNITIONS AND DISTRACTION DEVICES. Attendance of these programs will enable the student to continue in-service training for their department by providing both the technical and tactical information needed for effective product use. This program will cover a wide range of integrated use of force options enhancing officer safety and support courtroom testimony. Students may attend all or any combination of the four programs. Upon successful completion Defense Technology will certify the student as an Instructor in the appropriate subject. Each attendee must be physically fit for duty and able to perform the physical skills associated with tactical applications with the use of these products. This certification is valid for 2 calendar years from course completion.
Registration forms must be received 21 days prior to the course start date or a $25.00 late fee will be charged. Prepayment for the course in the form of department check, credit card, or department purchase order must also be received 21 days prior to course start date.

Shootrite Firearms Academy
Close Quarters Handgun, Sept 22-24 Gadsden P.D.
An intensive study of close quarters fighting skills with the handgun in close distances. Class will focus on combative fighting and shooting skills, retention techniques, weapon strikes, and the mental requirements for victory in close quarters, and ground fighting skills.
Class includes low-light session on 23 Sept.
Equipment requirements: (Note: Ammo/magazine requirements are minimum, bring extra if possible.) FBI Firearms Instructor Course
The Gadsden Police Department, in cooperation with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, will present an 80 – hour FBI Firearms Instructor Course October 20 – 31, 2008. The course will begin at 09:00 at the Gadsden Police Department’s Pierce Range training facility.
This course is designed to train and return to each department highly qualified professional firearm instructors. Upon completion of this course the instructor should be able to handle all of their department’s firearm qualifications. The instructor should also be capable of conducting night/low light training, and shotgun training. Upon successful completion of this course, the student instructor will receive certification from the Federal Bureau of Investigations.
The passing requirements for this course include:
- 90% or better on the firing range
- 85% or better on written exams
- Acceptable rating on student presentations
Students’ shooting skills should be above average. This course is NOT designed to teach the student to shoot. It is designed to teach the student how to teach others to shoot.
All students attending the Firearms Instructor Course must attend a Firearms Instructor Pre-Qualification Day where they will have to qualify with a 90% or better on three different courses with a semi-automatic handgun. The student will also have to qualify with a 90% or better on a shotgun course.
Upon receipt of the registration, each student will be sent copies of the courses to be fired during the pre-qualification so that the student can practice the courses.
Each student must have a minimum of 150 rounds semi-automatic ammunition, along with 11 rounds of slug and 5 rounds of buckshot for the Firearms Instructor Pre-Qualification Day. It is highly recommended that the student bring more ammunition to Qualification Day in case the student has to re-shoot a course.
Due to instructor expenses and logistical issues, the class must have a minimum of 12 students for the class to occur. The class is limited to 20 students.
Each student must provide the following equipment for the Firearms Instructor Course:
- .38 or .357 cal. revolver (maximum barrel length allowed is 4”) with holster and 200 rounds of ammunition
- Semi-automatic pistol, 9mm or larger (no single-action only will be allowed) with holster and 1000 rounds of ammunition
- 100 rounds of service ammo for night fire
- Department rifle (if available) with 100 rounds of ammunition
- Department shotgun (if available)
- 25 rounds of 12 gauge rifled slugs
- 50 rounds of 12 gauge 00 buckshot
- Ear protection (complete ear coverage preferred)
- Eye protection
- Soft body armor
- Appropriate range wear including ball cap with bill and wet weather gear
- Flashlight for night firing
THE COST OF THIS COURSE IS FREE
We must have your registration form to guarantee your seat in the course. Registration deadline is 1 week prior to course date. Since the class size is limited, the class will be filled on a first come, first pre-qualified basis. If for some reason you are unable to attend the course, please inform us by fax, e-mail, or letter.
